You make the difference!
The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History is your Museum!
Since 1941, the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History has been a magical place for imagination, innovation and first-hand learning. Founded by a group of school teachers whose vision was to create a special place where children could learn more about the natural world and their place in it, the Museum is an independent, private organization. It does not receive budget support from the city nor is it the beneficiary of a primary philanthropic contributor.
Exhibit admissions and fees generate nearly half of the income required to operate the Museum and its programs. The remaining half is provided by the generosity of individuals, corporations and foundations who appreciate the Museum’s unique role in addressing our community’s diverse educational needs.
All gifts make a difference…..
Your gifts provide essential financial resources so the Museum can provide world-class exhibits about history and science that educate, inform and engage.
Inspiration happens when we least expect it. But we see it everyday at the Museum when visitors engage in an activity that provides a new experience. Every visit offers exploration and discoveries about our world, to further understanding of the region’s history and roots or the science of everyday life.
Your gift allows the Museum to refresh, expand and update exhibits and programs.
Museum’s Highest Priorities: Gifts allow the Museum to be nimble and take advantage of opportunities that improve your experience for engagement and discoveries.
Museum’s Operations: The Museum is open 362 days a year, which allows you to visit when it is most convenient for you. Continuous operations require financial resources to ensure every aspect of the Museum is ready for your enjoyment and comfort.
Collections: The heart of the Museum is its Collections, comprised of the artifacts and specimens used in the exhibitions and educational programs. We need financial resources to purchase special materials for storage and database software to keep track of the more than 180,000 items in the Collection. Funding also allows for acquisition of additional items within our Collections plan and goals.
Education: Learning is a life-long endeavor, in partnership with parents and schools. Your gifts allow the Museum to meet the needs of students, teachers and parents, whether the programs are provided on-site, at the school or through distance learning technology. Lecture series and programs for adults also are provided throughout the year, to support our mission of life-long learning.
Exhibits: Gifts in support of exhibits allow the Museum to develop new exhibits, refresh current exhibits or secure traveling/temporary exhibits. Depending on the level of support, naming opportunities are available.
Technology: Technology enhances many of our exhibits by allowing information to be presented at several interest levels at the same time. Gifts allow the Museum to upgrade and expand the use of technology.
Omni/IMAX: Your gift will allow the Museum to secure new films to show. The domed Omni/IMAX provides unique viewing opportunities, far different from the flat-screen IMAX theaters.
Endowment: An endowment secures the future of the Museum by ensuring financial resources are available when economic forces reduce other revenue streams. Endowment gifts are welcome either through annual contributions or through an estate or planned gift. Gifts of any size may be added to an existing endowed fund. Talk with us about establishing an endowed fund to support exhibits, education and positions such as the Science Curator, History Curator, Archivist, Museum School Director and Museum President.
