Retail Assistant Manager:
Operations and Merchandising

This position is a very important tactical role that supervises the day to day operations of the sales floor including staff scheduling, staff training, customer service, cash handling, and opening/closing procedures.

Basic Function and Responsibilities including but not limited to:

  • Maintains store's physical condition and appearance
  • Ensures the security of personnel, assets and inventory
  • Plan, schedule and maintain weekly and monthly staffing schedules
  • Supervise and train store sales specialists.  Train staff on procedures, loss prevention, and POS
  • Oversee all retail floor operations including floor staff coverage, shelf stocking, cash handling, and opening/closing procedures
  • Diplomatically manages customer's needs and complaints in a timely manner
  • With Retail General Manager and Buyer, coordinate daily, weekly, and monthly operational priorities and goals
  • Assist Retail General Manager and Buyer in development and planning of promotions and in-store events such as product demonstrations, book signings, birthday parties, and author signings/readings
  • Oversee fulfillment of special merchandising programs such as birthday party bag orders
  • Responsible for ordering and maintaining inventory of all office and store support materials including packaging, pricing labels, ticketing, etc.
  • Models and reinforces Show Quality Standards
  • With Retail General Manager and Buyer, plans and implements seasonal merchandising themes
  • Supervise and implement product merchandising, display merchandising and daily maintenance and cleaning
  • Accurately perform physical inventory counts

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 4 years experience in retail store management and staff supervision
  • Passion for working with all ages in a retail setting
  • Sales ability
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays
  • Superior math skills
  • Ability to master computer POS system
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
  • Be able to stay on feet for complete shift
  • Ability to bend and squat
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
