Marketing/Special Projects Intern (Seasonal)
In the next two months, the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History will host two major events:
- The Association of Science-Technology Centers annual conference, Oct. 30-Nov. 3, 2009
- The grand opening of the new 166,000-square-foot Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, Nov. 16-21, 2009
The Marketing Department is in need of an intern to assist in coordinating conference details, oversee event set up, and special guest arrangements throughout both events, but particularly on Sunday, November 1, from 6 to 11 p.m. and during the Official Grand Opening on Friday, November 20, from 10 a.m. to noon. This position will afford anyone interested in event planning or the special events side of public relations a tremendous opportunity for fun, first-hand experience. You’ll get to rub shoulders with national recording artists, They Might Be Giants, as well as CSI: Crime Scene Investigation actor Wally Langham (Lab tech David Hodges on the hit TV series). Essentially, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! While this position is guaranteed only through November, there could be additional opportunities for future projects and an ongoing relationship throughout the year. The Marketing/Special Projects Intern reports to the Director of Marketing.
Basic Function and Responsibilities including but not limited to:
- Assist in the distribution and coordination of all signage and marketing materials in support of the ASTC conference, both before and during the event, Oct. 30-Nov. 3
- Act as liaison to all contracted attractions and guests during FWMSH host party, Sunday, November 1.
- Oversee hospitality arrangements and details related to They Might Be Giants appearance at ASTC party, Sunday, November 1.
- Assist in obtaining and set up of all decorations and guest materials for Sunday, November 1.
- Assist with other details as necessary during ASTC conference, Oct. 30-Nov. 3.
- Assist marketing director with coordination of details surrounding official Museum ribbon cutting, leading up to and on November 20; coordinate with area, national, and international schools involved in global online ribbon cutting.
- Assist with hosting Wally Langham, Nov. 19-21; confirm travel arrangements, coordinate and track itinerary, arrange for special guests and family, and work with Museum’s public affairs department to ensure availability for interviews and media coverage.
- Assist other museum staff as needed during opening events, Nov. 16-21.
Qualifications:
- Marketing, communications or public relations major, with interest in special events/event planning.
- Proficient in Word and Excel; other programs a plus.
- Working knowledge of social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
- Detail-oriented, punctual, reliable, flexible.
- A positive, achievement-oriented attitude and the personal skills to work in cooperation with all departments for the benefit of the Museum.
- Although hours will be flexible, you must be available to assist onsite Sunday evening, November 1, and Friday morning, November 20
