Commemorate Welcoming Week, a nation-wide event celebrated September 13 through September 22 that builds unity between immigrants, refugees and long time residents of our communities, at the Museum! We are hosting a variety of events throughout Welcoming Week.
TxDot’s Child Safety Tour | September 13 | 11 AM – 3 PM
TxDot’s Child Passenger Safety Tour encourages parents and caregivers to have their child safety seats inspected to ensure they are installed correctly and even features an augmented reality experience. Weather permitting, TxDot will be stationed both outside of the Museum’s main entrance and in our Atrium. The informational experience is free to anyone in our community who would like to participate.
Fort Worth ISD’s International Newcomer Academy Visit | September 19 and September 20
Students from FWISD’s International Newcomer Academy (INA) will enjoy a Museum experience during Welcoming Week. INA is a school designed for new immigrants in grades 6 through 12. In the 2016-2017 school year, students’ first languages included Anuak, Arabic, Bembe, Burmese, Chin, Dari, Farsi, French, Karen, Kinyarwanda, Kirundi, Krio, Kunama, Malay, Mandarin, Nepali, Pashto, Shan, Somali, Spanish, Swahili, Tigrinya, Vietnamese and Zomi. Their high school students will visit the Museum on Thursday, September 19, and their middle school students will visit on Friday, September 20. Join us in welcoming them!
Smithsonian Magazine’s Museum Day | September 21 | 10 AM – 5 PM
The Museum will conclude our Welcoming Week celebrations by participating in Smithsonian Magazine’s Museum Day. Guests can explore Museum exhibits for free on Saturday, September 21 by downloading a ticket here. This presents an exciting opportunity for those new to the area to experience the Museum.
