Collections Technician (Part-time)
Under the supervision of the Collections Manager, the Collections Technician is responsible for inventorying and cataloging of history, archive, and science collections, preparing artifacts for storage, and database maintenance and data entry. The position requires resolute concentration and research skills, experience with artifact handling and preparation, and attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.
Basic Function and Responsibilities (including but not limited to)
Preparing Collections Storage space for storage of artifacts
Preparing artifacts for storage
Housing, organizing, inventorying, cataloging, moving, and storing the Teaching Collection as appropriate
Monitoring the movement of artifacts at all stages and keeping the inventory database up-to-date
Consulting with the Collections Manager and Curators regarding the database and the accuracy of its information
Performing other collections-related activities as assigned
Bachelor's degree in History, Museum Studies, or related field required
Artifact handling experience required
High frequency of strenuous activity — lifting heavy objects, moving carts, using box cutters and hot melt glue guns to construct artifact storage trays, etc
Good manual skills, good communications skills, demonstrated remarkable organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to focus on tasks and willingness to follow directions and procedures required
Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (other than 9-5; including weekends)
Must be able to work independently or in a team situation
Must have valid driver’s license and maintain a clear driving record as well as complete the annual driver safety course to be an authorized driver for the museum
Computer skills in PastPerfect and ReDiscovery desirable
