The Marketing/PR Intern of the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History is an integral member of the Marketing team. The Intern plays a key role in ensuring the Museum successfully fulfills its mission to provide an extraordinary environment to engage youth and families in learning about science, history and natural history. The unpaid Marketing/PR Internship runs from September 2013 through May 2014. Working hours per week are flexible and will not total more than 30 hours per week.
Basic Function and Responsibilities including but not limited to:
As a member of the Marketing team, the Intern is responsible for assisting with media relations, including:
Drafting and Disseminating News Releases; Making follow-up phone calls to pitch stories/photo opportunities for Museum programs, exhibitions, and Omni films.
Updating and Maintaining media contacts.
Organizing and Maintaining media clips.
Developing a broadcast clip library.
Assisting with various aspects of Museum Public Relations.
The Intern is responsible for assisting with the creation of collateral materials including:
Brainstorming story ideas for quarterly Museum newsletter.
Drafting articles for Museum newsletter.
Proofreading articles for Museum newsletter.
Proofreading monthly Museum e-newsletter.
The Intern will assist with special media events, as needed. The Intern will perform other duties as appropriate.
The Internship is open to current seniors, recent graduates, and graduate students with a major in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, or Marketing.
Strong oral and written communication skills with an attention to detail; ability to read and edit communications copy and other related documents.
Strong organizational skills; ability to process and maintain large volumes of paperwork.
An understanding of Public Relations and Media Relations.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to sit or stand for extensive periods of time and negotiate local travel.
