Amy Henderson is a cultural historian at the National Portrait Gallery specializing in “the lively arts”, particularly media-generated celebrity culture and the impact of the image. Her books and exhibitions include On the Air: Pioneers of American Broadcasting, Red, Hot & Blue: A Smithsonian Salute to the American Musical, Exhibiting Dilemmas: Issues of Representation at the Smithsonian, The Changing Face of Celebrity Culture, KATE: A Centennial Celebration, Katherine Graham: One Life, and Elvis at 21. She writes a monthly online column for Smithsonian Magazine and is currently organizing a major dance exhibition called Dancing the Dream that is scheduled to open at the National Portrait Gallery.
Amy’s lecture will also be the inaugural program for the Fort Worth Museum’s Elvis at 21 exhibition.
