Joint exhibit between the Museum and the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo to showcase historic artifacts with digital technology.
Fort Worth, TX (January 18, 2022) —
Using holograms, video panels and a large 3-D digital display of the earth, “Step into the Stock Show” is the newest joint effort between the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History (FWMSH) and the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo (FWSSR). The collaborative curation combines artifacts, video and imagery provided by the Stock Show with the technologies used by the Museum of Science and History to give museum guests a unique look at both the history and contemporary livestock exhibition.
Museum visitors can engage with the interactive 3-D Sphere Theater where they can learn about the history of many popular U.S. beef cattle breeds including their country of origin. There’s even a 1934 Stock Show trophy on display that was mysteriously found in nearby Eagle Mountain Lake and restored to its original condition. An informative video narrated by well-known rodeo announcer, Bob Tallman, tells the rich history of the Stock Show and the leaders that laid the foundation for Fort Worth’s largest and oldest public event. Photos, text panels and holograms are also used to tell the Stock Show’s story to guests.
“A large part of our mission is to provide our guests with educational experiences tied to subjects they might have heard of, but not necessarily know a great deal about,” said the Museum’s Chief Public Engagement Officer, Dr. Doug Roberts. “It’s been a pleasure to develop this new digital exhibit and create stronger ties to the Stock Show.”
“This exhibit provides Stock Show guests with an opportunity to learn of our commitment to youth and agriculture through a different lens,” said Stock Show Communications Manager, Matt Brockman. “It also elevates our relationships within the museum community with subject matter tied directly to the Stock Show.”
Museum staff also created a new tool to showcase the Stock Show’s growing Youth Art Contest. Available at the Science and History Museum during the 2022 Show, an interactive kiosk assists guests in viewing and locating contest entry exhibits. The more than 1,500 works from youth across Texas are displayed in both locations as well as the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame. Using web-based technology, the kiosk allows guests to search for a youth’s art entry, view a digital image of the work and determine the location where it’s exhibited during the Stock Show.
Visitors can “Step into the Stock Show” during the Museum’s expanded hours from 10 PM to 5 PM, Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 PM on Sunday. The FWMSH is one of three museums, including the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame and the Cattle Raisers Museum, which are part of the Stock Show’s “Moo-seum Experience,” presented by Central Market. A Stock Show grounds admission provides access to all three great museums and visitors with a membership to any one of these institutions can enjoy free Stock Show grounds admission, as well (does not include rodeo in Dickies Arena).
